Rev. Michael Karunas wrote this weekend at his own blog, U Matters, about fatherhood and faith, adapting the piece he contributed to our recent FamilyScholars Symposium and including this new opening:
Father Greg Boyle has spent the last quarter of a century working with Hispanic youth and young adults in Los Angeles, helping them leave the gang-banging life and pursue a stable life and lifestyle. He founded Homeboy Industries which provides job opportunities for ex-gang members, both Homies and Homegirls (these are terms of acceptance). In his book Tattoos of the Heart, he writes: “In the heart of every Homie and Homegirl is a hole in the shape of their father.”
