““It’s a way of being warmer, more genuine, more welcoming, when you call yourself what everyone else calls you,” said Kate Coleman, the organization’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer.” Yes, and it’s also a way not to have to deal with that uncomfortable word “Christian” in your name. Or “Men.”
COLAGE used to stand for “children of gay and lesbians everywhere.” Now they are just, COLAGE. (and they play up the meaning of that as a word, for example their initiative to explore artificial reproductive technologies (ARTs) is their ‘COLAGE ART’ project.
Yes, Elizabeth, surely the reason for the name change is that “Christian” has gotten a very bad reputation because of the numerous scandals in both Roman Catholic and Protestant churches. Even the hateful Southern Baptist Convention recently admitted that they have an “image problem.” I would think that they have far more than an image problem, but that’s just me. What I find distressing is that the hate practiced by so many religions gives a bad name to the religions that truly practice the message of God’s love.
